"We will rebuild. We will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before!" -President Obama

President Obama’s truth in budgeting deserves praise for shedding more light on our financial condition, there is still far too much that is hidden in shadows. With hundreds of billions of dollars in new commitments being casually tossed about, almost numbing in size and always confusing in content, the Obama Administration will do a great deal to begin rebuilding trust and confidence in the future if it tells us what we need to know and not just part of it, all of it!

President Obama is taking a significant step toward fulfilling another important campaign pledge this week: he is unveiling a federal budget that actually tries to tell us some hard truths about the government’s finances. Too many years in the past, the Bush administration engaged in deception by keeping the costs of Iraq and Afghanistan out of the regular budget, plus pulling off some other shenanigans that disguised just how much the government was growing and how much its deficits were growing. By the time he left office, President Bush had practically doubled the national debt – doing as much damage in 8 years as the republic had suffered in more than 200 previous years combined.

Obama promised truth in budgeting, and he is succeeding far more than in the recent past. The cost of both wars will now be included in this week’s budget, money will be set aside to respond to natural disasters, and the budget won’t show cost cutting in programs that everyone knows will be revived (i.e. the alternative minimum tax).

The results of taking a truth serum (like in Kill Bill Vol. 2) along with the horrendous costs we are piling up in fighting the economic crisis will reveal eye popping numbers stretching far into the future. We can expect at least $1.3 trillion in deficits this coming year, another mountain the following year, before the deficits will be shown to slope down to some $533 billion four years from now. The Administration is touting that as serious progress, but only a year or so ago, an annual deficit of $500 billion would have been wholly unacceptable.

We need to know the hard truths about our country’s financial situation and the Administration deserves congratulations for going as far as it has, but the question arises: has it gone far enough? Will even this first Obama budget tell us everything we need to know? Sadly, that does not appear to be the case.

Check out his speech here:

  4. YES! Finally a president that is going to prioritise energy. Hopefully he follows in the footsteps of Kennedy and we see a new energy age.

  5. I liked it…he was honest and told America what it needed to be told…I have hope that he will be able to accomplish his goals, and as an American we need him to for the good of our country.

  6. If you idiots think we are doomed now, you can thank eight years of George W. Bush for it! We wentr from a record surplus to a record deficit because of him. Thank God we have a president who is looking out for the interests of all Americans and not just his own cronies.
BTW, am I the only one who is also thankful for a president who can actually speak English and not just insist that it be our "official language"?!? GO OBAMA!

  7. yeah good idea… punish the people who spent years of time and money in med school training to save lives. take away their money that they earned because some people are too lazy to even graduate high school and get a job. that's so fair. good thing i'm getting an education so he can give my money to worthless americans.

  9. I thought he was eloquent. That annoying woman behind him who kept leaping to her feet every 5 seconds clapping was unbearable! Let the man speak and hold your applause, at least for 5 minutes at a time! I really hope he delivers and is not like EVERY OTHER politician - just alot of lip service and no action!

  10. Obama's digging himself in far too deep. He passes a $787 billion stimulus pacakage and vows to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, good luck with that. Democrats used to always accuse Bush of fear mongering. Obama is telling Americans that "we WILL enter another depression" if the stimulus pacakage wasn't passed, sounds like fear mongering to me.

  11. What I wouldn't give to throw a shoe at Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi, she looked way too happy. Sit the fk down. We will recover, no wasteful spending, like the money acorn is getting from the stimulus plan. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY EXTRA $13 EVERY WEEK IN APRIL (TAX CUT???). What would we do without our rockstar savior?

  12. Have you ever heard "follow the money" in reference to solving a crime? Well, follow the money, people! America is getting mugged. President Obama is NOT the Kennedy of our time. He is NOT Lincoln. He is NOT change that 46% of Americans believe in. His "plan" has the very real possiblity (if not, probability) of destroying this country, but I hope to every higher power out there that he proves me wrong.

  16. I love Obama too and I pray he can save our country. But I do not agree that we should just stand behind ANY man simply because they hold the Office of President. Knowing what we know now would you have said the same thing of Dubya?

  17. I am not an Obama supporter, but I thought it was a very good speech. I don't think anyone would argue that he is a very charismatic man and can give one hell of a pep talk, but that doesn't get shit done. I appreciated his willingness to explain to the public why we need the bailouts to stimulate the economy back into working order, but his plans for cutting the national deficit in half by the end of this term seems like an awfully tall order for the way things are going so far. Let's hope hes not just a talking head and can actually deliver all the things he promised!
BTW….Joe Biden is a giant DOUCHE! I swear that guy has the most ridiculous facial expressions I've ever seen…"nobody messes with Joe!"

  18. Mmm no, I skipped it on purpouse why would I click on play now??? I'm sooo tired of this celebrity telling us what he might do if he becomes the president of our country!

  19. Now THAT'S an eloquent President! The speech was great, uplifting and to the point. I really support Obama.
I don't understand the people here who think that "we're doomed" because he's president. This is the same people that naver had a problem with having a monkey a.k.a. Bush as president. Please, get over it already and try, just try to be a little bit more constructive with your own country.

  21. Uhm, aren't the elections over? I think I've heard this speech a few other times.
This man needs some new material!
Recover? I only see that my tax dollars paying for the lazy, irresponsible lenders/borrowers of this country. Obama insists on this being time to help one another. NO! It's the working middle class to time to continue to pay for those who consistently take hand-outs

  22. If he truly wants to do something for this country, stop rewarding bad behavior. Let people have their houses taken away, put more money into unemployment not welfare, green energy what a joke-we have senators and congressman that have held their positions for 20,30, 40 years and now they want to do something about energy. I can't believe the people who think Obama will make this a great country. IT"S NOT THE GOVERNMENT THAT MAKES A GREAT COUNTRY-IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE COUNTRY GREAT! Obama can't find anyone who is not a liar or a cheat to put in his cabinet-so tell me about change.

  24. He again shows that he is a good orator. He has many good and radical ideas to try and get our country back on the right track. There were quite a few errors of fact unfortunately. The good thing is at least the media is holding him accountable and checking his facts, and not just the right wing media. Let’s hope his plans pan out and start to show results. Why you ask? Because if it does not pan out in 4 years and he doesn’t get reelected we get a whole new administration with new ideas, if he does then it better show results in 6 years or the same thing will happen. Either way he has my prayers and hopes that his promise of change was not an empty promise.

  25. Well said everyone. I think he is a great leader and motivator, now lets see some action, but we can only hope right now.

We cannot say he isn't trying because now its up to us to really get this mobalized...this will fail if we the people just lay down on our lazy-boy watching family guy and let our minds rot with useless crap.

PEOPLE get off your fat asses and do something, get a second job don't wait for the damn government to come and rescue you.

  26. I loved his speech. All the haters who say I accept him stop your complaining. Let at least 1 year pass. There is no need to critisize one person on their 1 month of work. SERIOUSLY... we want everything faster...well be patient. Not being patient is what got us in this place.

  27. That is a good point Charles. I mean its not like he isn't leading the free world. Sorry, pot shot, let me change this up. In my first month of college, I was taking a Remedial Composition class in school, which is still not one of my strong points so I apologize for the not so great composition of this comment. I turned in a paper that had as many holes as Obama's speech. I did not get a good grade to say the least. Did I give up? No I just worked harder and my next paper didn't have as many holes. When I got it back it was still not a higher grade but it was better than the first paper. What I am getting at is that Obama was under scrutiny since day one. He has no business turning in his paper with as many fact holes as he did. But then again you are right it is his first paper. He should do better next time.
