Fierce Single

Video: Beyonce- Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

Entertainment Weekly just put out an article on the popularity of Beyonce's, I mean Sasha Fierce's song "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). Rolling Stone has named it the single of the year and MTV.com just named that song the #2 song of the year after Lil' Wayne's "A Milli". In addition did I forget to mention its pop/urban crossover appeal making eligable to be heard on almost every radio station, heard on every music channel, SNL skits, morning and television promotional shots with Oprah, Ellen, Tyra and Jay Leno, no wonder this song is currently the #1 song in America yet again for another week on Billboards Hot 100.

Can a song that is this heavily promoted really be that great. Well I think so. I recently heard an acoustic version of this song she did for Radio1 in Europe and it was short of breath taking, you could really feel what this song is about, its about telling that good for nothing ex-lover if you wanted it you should of put a ring on it, now that somebody else wants it now you want it?

The other thing that has been helping out this single is its music video, at first glance its just three females in leotards in black and white with Fosse like choreography. Sounds simple enough, well this clip has inspired over 12,000 dance videos on YouTube! Here is the choreography broken down courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:

1. Hands Up! And Kick! (0:12) It's basically a more theatrical version of Legally Blonde's signature ''bend and snap'' move.
2. Various Prancing (0:21) Channel your inner dainty reindeer. (Note: Individual and group variations of the sashay will be required.)
3. Punch the Ground (0:43) The key is keeping your forearm and thigh parallel. The crisper the head snap, the better.
4. Doing the Half Splits (0:59) Grind your hips, purse your lips, and roll down into this leg extension. Remember: Wincing isn't sexy!
5. Cardio Stewardess (1:35) There's room for improv here — just think ''Jane Fonda'' and ''side exit doors'' and you'll be fine.
6. Ring Hands (3:12) Finish with a dramatic flaunt of your ringless finger. Like the guy ever even had a chance.

It's interesting that even people who absolutely loathe her like Perez Hilton actually love this song and you can catch him and Katy Perry in a few parody videos of this song. MTV.com writer James Montgomery says it best, "All I know is that there is absolutely zero chance Beyoncé ever releases a single like this ever again, so, you know, enjoy it while you can."

  1. Now this is my song! I love her new album, its actually really great. The video is so much fun and I like that they did it in one continous shot. I also hear the darker back up dance is a guy....but who cares b/c they can all DANCE their butts off. Good article I really enjoyed it and the EW tips were hilariously on point.
