Kanye West: Artist of the Decade & Album of the Decade

I will forever be a Kanye West fan and just because he told Taylor Swift the truth (however the timing disrespectful and should of been left to a rant after the show or via twitter), he has lost the respect of many (including his recent snub at the grammy's). Fortunately, there are some people out there who still have faith in Yeezy! Rolling Stone Magazine named Kanye West one of the most influential people of this decade! Billboard Magazine named Taylor West and Kanye West the top male and female acts of 2009. Subsequently, Entertainment Weekly just said that Kanye West's album "The College Dropout" is the best one this century. All I have to say to that is that I totally agree! If it wasn't for innovative artist for Kanye West, John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Outkast, Beyonce, Miranda Lambert and Timbaland who continue to push the envelope we would all be stuck in pop hell with artists like Taylor Swift or Heidi Montag. Mr. West, thank you for always keeping it real.

  2. Kanye said: WOW... THIS IS REALLY FLATTERING... I'VE HAD SOME UPS AND DOWNS THIS YEAR, WELL ACTUALLY THIS DECADE. JUST SEEING THIS COVER TAKES ME BACK TO THAT TIME OF MY LIFE. I REMEMBER HOW MUCH PAIN AND LOVE WENT INTO THIS ALBUM. NO ONE SAW IT COMING. THIS PROJECT WASN'T ABOUT ME, IT WAS ABOUT A TIME IN PEOPLES LIVES WHERE PEOPLE FORCE OPINIONS ON YOU AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE CHOICES FOR YOURSELF. WE LOVED 50 CENT BUT WE WANTED TO BE THE YANG. WE WANTED TO WEAR PINK POLOS AND RAP ABOUT BEING HURT INSTEAD BEING INVINCIBLE. THERE WAS A CORE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WORKED ON THIS ALBUM EVERYDAY.... PLAIN PAT, JOHN MONOPOLY, DON CRAWLEY, ANTHONY KILHOFFER, MANNY MARROQUIN, JOHN LEGEND, DEVON HARRIS, RYHMEFEST, GEE ROBERSON, HIP HOP, AL BRANCH, DAMON DASH, GABE TESORIERO, CRAIG BAUER, GLC, OL' SCHOOL ICE GREE, CONSEQUENCE, B NICE AND MY MOM. I WAS MOST INSPIRED BY THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL AND I LISTENED TO THAT ALBUM EVERYDAY WHILE WORKING ON MY DEBUT. THANK YOU FOR THIS ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND FOR PUTTING "THE BLUEPRINT" ON THE LIST ALSO. I LOVED "THE LOVE BELOW' AND "GET RICH OR DIE TRYING" ALSO. THEY BOTH EQUALLY DESERVED THE NUMBER ONE SPOT IN MY EYES BUT THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE NUMBER ONE!!!

  15. A well-deserved award and it's so refreshing to see a hip-hop album get such a title. You are my favorite rapper and I love your music. It has always been a constant inspiration to me. Keep doing what you do, 'Ye.

  16. Kanye, Congrats, congrats, congrats!!It is so nice to see u being recognized for ur amazing talent. I love the college dropout album.Recently, I accidently broke my cd and I swear if I didn’t have it on my iPod, I would've gone nuts without it. I think I honestly listen to ur music every day. They should say most inspirational and most influential artist of the decade too.Just think of all the music u have inspired, created, or been a part of.Just in the past year, you have been everywhere and in such a positive musical way.To name just a few:Kid Cudi, The Dream, Drake (music & music video), Jay Z, Keri Hilson, Beyonce, Mr. Hudson..I don’t even need to continue cuz u get my point.Just listening to the radio, most of what they play either is Kanye West or feat. Kanye West. Lady Gaga couldn’t have said it better when she said that you’re really talented and that u have changed music. There is NO DENYING THAT!!!Again, congratulations Ye, this is truly deserved.Love always,Amanda xo

  17. This was a very powerful album. I remember during Katrina thinking that this album was heaven sent.. Songs like drive slow, and On my way home was so relative to the time and so uplifting.. It was inspiring and comforting to hear these lyrics and melodies during a tragedy..

  18. Finally, reputable sources like Rolling Stones and E.W. that acknowledeges and rewards those with the most influence this decade.

  19. You didn't mention 808's got 63 on the top 100 albums, Graduation got # 45, Late Registration got # 40, and again the "College Dropout" did amazing at # 10! ALL of your albums made it, so of course your one of their top artist. On their top 100 songs their was: 29. "Gold Digger" and 19. "Jesus Walks".

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why didn't he get album of the year or song or the year or record of the year nominations? Oh yeah bc he pissed off white folks who like that taylor chick.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Much deserving although I'm disappointed that honest is the new a$&hole! But if they hated on Jesus what can we expect!!! I think this is an amazing accomplishment! Most geniuses are not recognized in their time so much respect! Not to mention you just sold 1 million. Now if we can get you and lauryn hill together!

    ReplyDelete
  22. HELL YEAH!!! I would have to agree.

  26. We can't blame taylor on the whole thing! Kanye is to blame but that is over should'nt have the voters seen past that? Isn't that why we hate Chris Brown after all?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I totaly agree with this, Kanye is who I listen to no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  28. taylor west? lol...kanye is a genius...looking back at that day...I was shocked and really confused but he said he was sorry and he meant it so ppl need to get off his sack and give him the respect he deserves

    ReplyDelete
  29. kanye rocks imo

    ReplyDelete
  30. awesome post i totally agree with your poost kanye needs to be given his due credit this decade was totally influenced by him his list of songs he wrote is amazing

    ReplyDelete
  31. this post is brutal and heartfelt all at the same time. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I totally agree I like the show glee and some of the songs but some of them just suck! My pick for worst song of the year is that jerk song and 'i'm on a spaceship' some euro techno song that sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry wrong place to post! i agree that kanye rocked the decade but did'nt nsync or justin timberlake give more bang for our buck?

    ReplyDelete
  34. IF YOU SEEK AMY Taylor!! LMAO I hate that angel...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow I love both artists in all honestly I was sad that Kanye did that...but he admits he had demons and all of that but it appears that Taylor has accepted his apology and that is all that matters. Who are we to hold this over his head? Kanye is a GOD in the music world producing smooth sexy r&b jams for alicia keys and amazing hip hop anthems like jesus walks and stronger.

  36. All I know is that if we just base this honor on his music alone he totally deserves it...his behavior not so much, but I totally get why he received these honors, he truly deserves it, no other man worked as hard as he did. Did you catch his glow in the dark tour? Now that is a true artist unlike losers like britney spears who never sing live or madonna who constantly try to reinvent themselves and nobody cares.

  37. green day is the artist of the decade...but i agree with kanye having the best album of the decade that album was just amazing

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kanye is so underrated at his current status he is the best at everything it is a shame that a couple of outbreaks make him look like the bad guy

    ReplyDelete
  39. In a decade we will look back and say wow Kanye West changed the sound of music four times just like Timbaland...that is amazing! :) Go Kanye you deserve all your success!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am a huge Taylor Swift fan and though I was hurt when he did that, his music has always resonated as one of the best of all time and he totally deserves all his triumphs...and the grammy snubs are so lame he totally deserved best album and best record/song nominations for heartless...that song has been #1 by three artists...I mean who else can say that? (The Fray/Kris Allen/Kanye)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I guess so, I would of given it to Eminem or Santana

    ReplyDelete
  42. cool one man! thanks for the fyi

    ReplyDelete
  43. JAY-Z? I would of given it to him for the Blueprint but Kanye is amazing too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is awesome...he admits to loving 50 cents album classic! See Kanye has some class! Go 'Ye!

    ReplyDelete
  45. HELL YEAH!!!!!! This made my day!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm so glad you are back, I had missed your random rants on artists and your off the wall comments like taylor deserved it lmao...she kinda did imo...anywayz glad to see you back take care and i look forward to move scandalous stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I so agree with him having the top album but imo the top artist should of been Beyonce...think about it...with Destiny's Chld and as her solo artist she should be at the top right?

    ReplyDelete
  49. KANYE SUCKS sorry! Team Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ciara "Work" was so lame sorry. That is my pick.

    ReplyDelete
  51. What about the two top divas Madonna & Janet's returns? What a joke those songs had no impact even after Madonna gave that song away on iTunes for free!!!! What a loser. Talk about losing your fanbase!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think the top artist of the decade is Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys/Beyonce!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love Kanye but what about Coldplay? They had a huge decade!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Miley Cyrus also pushed the envelope!

    ReplyDelete
  55. great post well deserved

    ReplyDelete
  56. Finally somebody gets it right!!! Great stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love that he is getting his well-deserved credit. Keep on killin' em 'Ye!!! I am so mad at the academy for the Grammy diss. He deserved to be nominated over Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hated that Gloriana beat out Lady GaGA & Keri Hilson at the AMA's so I vote for anything they did!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. "I will forever be a Kanye West fan and just because he told Taylor Swift the truth"

I've gotta disagree with you, Art. He didn't tell Taylor Swift "the truth"; he told the entire audience (people watching at home included) his OPINION. I personally don't think Beyonce had a better video. I do think both artists had great videos, though! :)

I also wouldn't classify Taylor's music as "pop hell," but hey, that's just MY opinion. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. She told you ;) LMAO! Anyways Taylor Swift sucks imo she makes pop music now and it is so teeny-bopper and I can't stand it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wait what? Kanye West seriously? He does not deserve that honor it should go to Nsync.

    ReplyDelete
  62. totally well deserved
