It may not be easy being green but it must suck to be in Beyonce's shadow! Grammy winning R&B/pop singer Kelly Rowland will no longer be recording with Columbia Records as a solo artist, it was officially announced by the label. Kelly is a founding member of Destiny’s Child and will continue her relationship with Columbia Records in her ongoing role with Destiny's Child (they still have two more records under contract during the next five years). Her official statement reads:"Because Columbia Records has been my home base as an artist for more than a decade, the decision to move out on my own required a lot of soul-searching. As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution. I want to thank everyone at Columbia for the love and support they’ve shown and I will never forget how many good times we’ve had over the years.”
Now for some good news... just as news broke of her leaving Columbia Records, Kelly breaks into reality TV as the co-host and judge of Bravo’s new design show The Fashion Show. She shares her hosting and judging duties with fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi and Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis. The series is set to premiere on May 7th.

Didnt one of the world’s famous ‘model’ host Project catwalk, a show with a similar premise?? Is she a washed up has been? What about Simon Cowell?

ReplyDeleteI would love to say congrats to Kelly, but EVERYBODY knows doing a reality show is basically the kiss of death for anyone wanting a successful career in hollywood….This is a definite step down and a desperate grab to stay in the limelight for her. She has come from one of the most successful girl bands, to a unsuccessful solo career, to now reality t.v…..I would congratulate her if this were a t.v. sitcom where she could display some acting skills, but it’s not….I can’t believe she’s happy about hosting….A PHUCKING HOSTING JOB is what newcomers use in the business to get to the REAL CAREER….Unless your name is Oprah, hosting is for the freaking birds!
She killed her career years ago by not taking it as seriously as beyonce took her career, by constantly giving credit to other artists, tooting them as better than herself, giving them her camera time, when she shouldn’t be solely talking about herself as if she was the next best thing….her actions were ludacriss, and they, along with other things about her personality, killed her solo career…..
I use to really like Kelly, and i think she’s a GORGEOUS girl, but she’s a follower….and she seems to be extremely unsure of herself and tender at heart when it comes to ther roots/family. I can almost guarantee that if Kelly would have come out the gate strong, with a cd closely following up her single with Nelly, and if she would have grinded like beyonce did, then she would not be in this spot….Instead she was seen laughing and smiling, talking about some other woman’s career, saying how proud she was of someone else, and how wonderful some other artists was!! Complete craziness if you ask me…So if you’re saying this about someone else, then of course the public’s attention is going to fly away from you. As far as Kelly not being a frontrunner, i think that’s due to some other issues, but had her solor career had taken off, i think we would been seeing a totally different swag with Kelly….
If she get’s picked up by another label, my advice to her would be the following:

LeToya and LaTavia were trying to establish themselves with a new manager but instead got called “Tone Deaf” and “Bad Seeds of Destiny Child”. Well now Kelly is sorta looking like a Bad Seed of Mathew Knowles because she fired him. Like Beyonce attempting to sing an Alanis Morisette song isn’t this a litte too IRONIC.

Congratulations Kelly. I was always suspicious of the manuevering behind DC, but Beyonce did work the hardest even after all the fall out. She made sure that she was seen everywhere. So, I just don’t understand how people can be angry with her for working the hardest. These people stick together, Columbia knows that Beyonce is valuable so I wouldnt doubt if Matthew played his Beyonce hand to get Kelly out of there. Matthew is known for Saying “Beyonce wont do this, if you dont do that”…….this is how Beyonce gets so much play because her daddy makes all the shady deals behind her back. J records and Columbia are divisions of Sony BMG so basically theyre the same label. She’d be better off at a label not afiliated with Sony because theyre known for their shadyness and have been caught out for paying stations to play artists songs etc
ReplyDeleteI’m actually surprised that Columbia didn’t drop her sooner, her albums haven’t shifted at all and considering she was from DC (who had a massive fanbase) she should have sold more cd’s. Even the digital rerelease of Miss Kelly didn’t do well.
Kelly has made some silly decisions with her career which she can’t blame the label for, the single choices for her last album were dreadful. WORK didn’t even have a proper chorus, it was such a forgettable song. She should have released Addicted to you, In love with my ex. etc. Plus her live performances are beyond lack luster, despite the fact that she should be able to sing and dance live she can’t and if you can’t do both then pick one and stick with it. Her songs also don’t showcase her vocal ability.
Fair enough Columbia didn’t promote her properly, but theyre not fully to blame for this. Kelly needs to take charge of her career and probably focus on working in Britain because thats the only place where she might stand a chance of making it- (with Cowell/Fuller supporting her)
I’ll wait for DC to get back together until then its a wrap for Ms. Rowland, I am not a hater just realistic.
