Keri Hilson is one of those writers who knows that perfect pop formula but she does not over do it. Keri has been producing, writing, making demos and being a video girl for over twelve years and now this album is meant to show what she can do.
I think she delivered the perfect pop and r&b album. Subsequently, don't be deceived by the title In A Perfect World... she does not mean that life is perfect... in fact quite the opposite. This album opens up with some fun songs you can listen to in the club but then it slowly shifts over to baby making music and heavy relationship music. I think that Keri did a great job keeping her guest list short because we know she could of done what Timbaland or Diddy did and include a guest on every single song. I feel she shined brighter on those songs that did not have any guests like "Slow Dance" and "Make Love".
Furthermore, with heavy production from Timbaland and Polow Da Don In A Perfect World… is a stellar album. With all the ladies in r&b like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and Ciara, where was Keri going to fit in? The answer is that she is not trying to fit in, she is trying to make her own spot and that is something that was very constant in her album. There is not one song on her album that sounds manufactured or recycled and that is such a hard thing to do when everyone is doing the auto tune thing.
The album consist of 14 tracks and the album is one of those you can just press play to. My final ruling is that she deserves that dime diva status! Check it out here:
“Keep rockin’ and keep knockin’, whether you Louboutin it up or Reebokin’.”
ReplyDeleteone of the best r&b albums ever.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite track on the album is Make Love. Thanks for the review. I agree.
ReplyDeleteThis is an R&B album to groove to. I seriously could listen to this the whole through.
ReplyDeletemy vote for album of the year!
ReplyDeleteenergy is AWESOME
ReplyDeleteI heard the turning me on remix was going at Nicole from the Pussycatdolls dat what i heard and not beyonce or ciara ;)
ReplyDeletewil buy like 3 coppies of her album because Ciara does nothing for me but dance around the stage And Queen Bey is not hurt by Keri Hilson so im a fan of both ...
ReplyDeleteThe number one song I like is "make love"
ReplyDeleteKerri Hilson's CD Is Really Good
ReplyDeleteI love It!
To FuckKeriHilson: Hey, you are just as bad as those Beyonce haters. Get a damn life, Keri never did shit to you.
ReplyDeleteMe personally I like the album, but I feel like the beat production overshadows her voice. However Knock You Down, Change Me, Alienated, and Energy are my jams. I especially looove the lyrics to Energy, so real and true. Alot of the songs on there are relatable, so good job to her on her debut. Hopefully her next album is better.
I can listen to over and over: Slow Dance, Make Love and Knock You Down.
ReplyDeleteI went to listen to the album earlier. After I watched this of course. OMG you weren't lying the "Make Love" track is hot. I've been hearing those other singles but mann when I heard "Tell Him The Truth", I couldn't stop playing it!!! I like that Slow dance song a lot too!
ReplyDeleteYeah it is a good debut album for her but I fear that the push backs have taken the steam off of this album and I do feel like she left some good tracks off of this album. I loved do it and that new song with t-pain : patron :)
ReplyDeleteIts a good album. I am absolutely love Knock You Down! That is my jam. Oh and Slow Dance, OMG that song is so sexy!
ReplyDeletei will b buyin it...
ReplyDeleteWALMART
here I come!
BUY HER ALBUM PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!SUPPORT NEW ARTIST. + her album is amazing. She got a "A" from Entertainment Weekly!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like her CD its kinda of a breath of fresh air compared to most of the crap that been coming out and yes thats including the all Mighty "B". I feel u on the Akon song tho, it doesn't flow with the rest of the CD.
ReplyDeleteFrom this album, you can tell that Keri is more of a creative artist and isn't a record label manufactured pop star like Rihanna.....opps did I say that? lol
After i heard "Knock you down", i was pretty much sold. It's weird because out of all the singles that she releaed, i've liked "Energy" the most. It's sad when a song like "Turnin Me On" is more successful than a song like "Energy". Don't ge me wrong, i LOVE "Turnin Me On" but in terms of lyrics and meaning, "Energy" is a better song.
ReplyDeleteI have slept on her for a while...but this album is now on my repeat! I love it. Especially make love.
ReplyDeletei'm buying it off i-tunes! i heard some of the songs on there and i really liked them. hope her album sells well.
ReplyDeleteI Love Keri's CD
ReplyDeleteI already loved her first 3 Singles but now I like "Make Love", "Knock You Down", "Slow Dance", "Intuition", "Alienated", "Tell Him The Truth", & "Where Did He Go" as well. The other songs will have to grow on me.
She should of put 'Happy Juice' Ft Snoop Dogg.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when it wasn't on there ..

ReplyDeletei AGREE!!!!...intuition is Ols School Timb material..I LOVE IT!!!!......and Akon's verse on Change me is Horrid...i think Akon needs to know when to just draw the line with his 'singin'....
ReplyDeleteI'm so getting her album. I've been waiting for months and so far she has yet to disappoint me with anything she's released as a single or with someone else. I hope to see her at the top of the Billboard Top 100for both charts (overall and r&b as well).
ReplyDeletethe 'where did you go' track was one of her first songs that leaked that got her alot of 'underground' attention. its a fan fave of the people who were riding with her from a few years back. i guess thats why she put it on the album.
ReplyDeleteI just bought my copy today and I have it on replay.
ReplyDeleteIt's a masterpiece!
